GENERAL INFORMATION AND FACTS ON FLIGHTS TO FLORIDA.
These vary enormously in price and the way to get the best deals is to do some research on the internet. We have found that www.Ebookers.com are good for scheduled flights and www.expedia.com can have some amazing deals. You may also be able to find the best deals by doing your own research, but we’d tend to start with these two and compare the rest to what they can offer. You can link direct to Expedia or Ebookers by clicking on the links above, and you may find your preference is affected by whether you’re travelling from North America or from Europe.
There are three reasonable airports you can fly to but the closest and most obvious is Orlando International Airport (MCO). Orlando Sanford Airport (SFB) some way north, often offers cheaper flights.Using SFB, you can expect less comfort in general − plane, facilities, surroundings, entertainment − than by using scheduled flights to MCO, which is a very plush, modern, international terminal, but the cost saving might make it worthwhile. The third reasonable option is Tampa, which again offers scheduled flights to a luxurious international airport, and is often cheaper/quieter than MCO. Tampa and SFB will require about 60−70 minutes’ journey after leaving the airport, MCO about 35−40 minutes. (If you’re a real driving enthusiast, you could also try Miami, which is also less busy but means a 3−4 hour drive after you land − not ideal if you’re new to the roads). Your specific choice will probably be determined by timing and availability of flights Schedule flight carriers offering non stop service to Orlando International Airport from the UK are Virgin and British Airways, charter flight companies such as Monarch, European, Air 200, Brittania and Thomas Cook fly into Sanford Airport.
The other thing to consider is flexibility − indirect flights (changing at Washington, Detroit, Pittsburgh, Newark, etc) are often much cheaper, but if your party is likely to get stressed by longer travel time and possible delays with connections (eg if you have small, tired kids − or large, tired adults) then you want a direct flight. Indirect flights are generally easier for getting through Immigration.
